Type CC Type CCT Covered Conductors (ASNZS 3675)
Type CC & CCT covered conductors built to AS/NZS 3675 standards.
Reliable overhead solution with tough weather-resistant covering.
Designed for safe, compact, and low-maintenance distribution lines.
Hard-drawn aluminum conductors with UV-stabilized insulation.
Ideal for bushfire-prone and high-clearance areas in ANZ networks.
Application
Type CC and Type CCT Covered Conductors are overhead low-voltage cables manufactured in compliance with AS/NZS 3675, specifically developed for Australian and New Zealand distribution networks in bushfire-prone and high-risk environments.
These conductors consist of a hard-drawn aluminum or aluminum alloy conductor covered with dual-layer or triple-layer UV-resistant thermoplastic insulation.
Type CC features a two-layer covering, offering basic insulation and resistance to accidental contact, trees, and environmental exposure.
Type CCT includes a third carbon-blackened UV protection layer, enhancing durability in extreme solar radiation and long-term outdoor installations.
Both types maintain electrical continuity with ground, enabling effective system protection and fault detection—unlike fully insulated systems. They provide a safer alternative to bare conductors while preserving the simplicity of open-wire installation.
Type CC and CCT conductors are ideal for use in rural networks, agricultural areas, roadside lines, and regions requiring enhanced fire mitigation, especially under Australia’s bushfire compliance guidelines. They are compatible with standard pole hardware and deliver low maintenance, long service life, and improved public safety.
Specifications
| Category | Technical Description | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | AS/NZS 3675 – Specifies covered overhead conductors for use in LV/MV distribution networks | Widely used in Australia and New Zealand, especially in bushfire-prone and vegetated rural areas |
| Conductor Types | – Type CC: Circular Stranded Aluminum 1350-H19– Type CCT: Thermal-Resistant Aluminum Alloy (TRAA) conductor (better sag & thermal profile) | Type CCT preferred for high-temperature operation and better mechanical performance |
| Covering Material | – Thick-wall UV-resistant cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) or high-density polyethylene (HDPE) | Provides mechanical protection and partial insulation; not rated for full dielectric withstand |
| Voltage Class | – Generally used up to 22 kV (MV)- Typical: 6.35/11 kV, 12.7/22 kV | Suitable for overhead rural feeders, spur lines, fire-risk zones |
| Insulation Status | – Covered, not insulated – conductor is touch-protected but air clearance requirements remain | Installed on insulators, unlike ABC cables |
| Color / Marking | Usually black outer layer with indented markings for phase ID and traceability | Ensures easy identification during installation and maintenance |
| Attribute | Type CC | Type CCT |
|---|---|---|
| Conductor Material | 1350-H19 aluminum | Thermal-resistant aluminum alloy (e.g., 1120, 6201) |
| Operating Temperature | Typically 90°C | Up to 110°C continuous, 130°C overload |
| Sag Resistance | Moderate (standard aluminum sag) | Improved – better tension handling in long spans |
| Current Carrying | Standard ampacity | Slightly higher due to improved thermal rating |
| Mechanical Strength | Good | Better – suited for longer pole spacing and wind zones |
| Application Preference | General overhead installations | Bushfire zones, hot climates, difficult terrain, retrofit upgrades |
